(Forest Grove, Oregon) U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici’s community projects were approved in the most recent federal funding package, including $750,000 for West Tuality Habitat for Humanity. The money will pay for the development of eight units of affordable housing in Western Washington County, Oregon, set aside for people making less than 80% of the area median income.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, a bill with $1.7 trillion worth of spending measures, is headed to President Joe Biden’s desk on Friday, January 6 after approval from the U.S. House of Representatives. It will send more than $35 million to governments and nonprofits in Northwest Oregon, including West Tuality Habitat.

"Permanent housing - a home - helps people and families gain more strength, stability and self-reliance" said Virginia Ohler, Executive Director of West Tuality Habitat. "Representative Bonamici has long had a commitment to affordable housing and efforts that help keep vulnerable people in their homes. We are so grateful for her continued work on behalf of our community and for this latest achievement for the people of Oregon."

Each member of Congress could submit up to 15 community projects to be considered for funding. Bonamici submitted 15 and all were included in the bill. Of the 15 projects proposed and paid for through the bill, seven will go to programs or construction projects specifically in Washington County.
