June 15 Gaston Neighborhood cleanup: Help vulnerable home owners transform their yards & homes in ONE DAY
West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Rock the Block event at Gaston Country Mobile Estates on June 15. And we need volunteers to help! In just a few hours, we will help transform the yards and homes of homeowners, making their spaces safer. In some cases, it will help people extend the time they can live in their own home.
West Tuality Habitat received a grant from Lowe’s earlier this year to help support this and other neighborhood revitalization events and to help vulnerable homeowners in Western Washington County. The Lowe's funding support’s our efforts to make homes safer and healthier and create stronger communities. Our Critical Home Repair program serves the elderly, people with disabilities, people on low or fixed-incomes, and military veterans who are homeowners in our area of Western Washington County, including Forest Grove, Banks, Cornelius, North Plains, Gaston, Gales Creek and the surrounding area.
Gloves will be provided but you are welcomed to bring your own. Protective glasses, safety vests and hard hats, if needed, will also be provided but you are welcomed to bring your own. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes or boots and to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on or getting dirty. Layering clothing is recommended as temperatures can change throughout the day. Remember, we work rain or shine!
Volunteers should be there PROMPTLY at 9 and work for an hour or two helping neighbors load dumpsters and helping to drop off air conditions for vulnerable home owners. Participants go through an onsite safety training and must follow our Code of Conduct, which is available on our web site and is posted at the work site. Volunteers will NOT enter any homes and volunteers will not work alone. Volunteers will sign a waiver and provide other information to West Tuality Habitat before they begin work.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, or with a parent accompanying them, 16 or 17 year old. We strongly discourage you from bringing valuables, including jewelry, to our worksites. Personal power tools are not allowed. There is no smoking, drugs, or alcohol allowed on our worksites.
Come to this event, see what our team is like, and if you volunteer again, you could find yourself doing yard work, exterior painting, major or minor repairs, working on ramps, railings, grab bars and more. These repairs enable the homeowners to live longer in their own home that serves their needs better and more safely, while maintaining the value of their greatest investment-their home.
