Good morning!

I hope your Friday will be a good day for you.
As for Saturday:  it is an important day at the work site.  We are ready for dry-wall on house #1.  Richard is purchasing about 90 sheets today and we will need people to help unload those sheets tomorrow.  Therefore we will be clearing a lot of things out of the garage, cleaning in up and stacking the dry-wall there and throughout the house, making it as easy as possible for those who will be hanging it.
In addition we are waiting for response from C&M Roofing who will place the trusses on house #2 and Danny's group is continuing the work on house #5, however we are waiting for the permits to be approved before we can do much more there.  So tomorrow the dry-wall is the focus.
There is also the need to hang the siding on house #1.  We have completed the west side up to the belly board and it looks good.  Yesterday we started the east side of the house and that will continue.
Hope it isn't raining too much in the morning, however rain or shine, we will need to unload the sheets of dry-wall from the Habitat truck.  See you tomorrow morning!

Dick Kroll, Volunteer Housing Coordinator.

THIS IS EXCITING!!  During the last few weeks a number of new volunteers are coming to the work site to help build houses for deserving and qualified people.

Danny & Kaylie, our newest home owners, have many friends who are stepping up to help them build house #5.  They installed the floor joists last Saturday and the house is now ready for the initial installation of PLUMBING.

As for house #2, Chuck & Richard, among others have been putting in long days to build the walls of not only the first floor, but the second floor as well.  It is very close to being ready for trusses and, of course PLUMBING.

House #1 continues to progress with siding, decorative front pillars, and lots of little projects to get the inspection finalized.  The big problem in achieving completion of the inspection is the PLUMBING.

There seems to be a theme developing here!!!  We need PLUMBERS!  If you are a licensed PLUMBER or know a licensed PLUMBER, West Tuality Habitat would be most grateful if you would come forward NOW.    Plumbing is a special skill and a great deal of time and headaches could be saved by a licensed PLUMBER.
If a Plumber is available please contact me by replying to this notice or call my cell phone at 503 351-5347.
Or call Richard Kidd, our Construction Manager, at 503 307-7054.

Your excited Volunteer Coordinator, Richard "Dick" Kroll

As you can see Chuck & Richard are building the walls to second story of house #2.  Construction is going quickly.  The rest of the crew today, Jerry, George, Bruce and George are doing odds and ends, as well as siding to complete house #1.

Richard reports that the primary project Saturday, Feb. 23, will be to put the sills on the foundation of house #5 and to begin placing the joists for the flooring.  This is exciting!  Progress will now begin to show on the house chosen by new owners, Danny and Kaylie.
Once again I want to thank Richard Kidd for the work he does, not only at the site, but also making sure we have the building materials to keep the projects progressing.
Thanks again to the crews for Tuesdays and Thursdays and their consistency.  And thanks to all who are able to turn out on Saturdays or once in while to help.

Dick Kroll, Construction Volunteer Coordinator

Build days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday's from 9 am to 1 pm.
I would really like to hear from each of you as to what your thoughts are about you level of volunteering on the construction projects.  Are you still available and interested in being contacted to work?  Is there a chance you will be looking forward to time at the construction site?

Our primary work times are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

If you want to work at other times or want to volunteer for a specialty project, PLEASE CONTACT ME or Richard Kidd.  Richard is still the construction manager and is arranging to get all the special projects completed.

Hello, volunteers!
We are continuing to effectively build the "Coop Condo Units" at Oak and 19th in Forest Grove.  We are putting siding on house #1 and the siding crew is coming to work on Tuesday.  If you want to join them, COME.  We have also straightened the first story walls in house #2 and are ready to double the plate, thus getting ready to put the floor joists in to support the second floor.  If you want to join this framing crew, COME!

Then we have a new development.  Our new owners, Danny & Kallee, have chosen to take on house #5 and they are bringing friends to help them build that unit.  We will all pitch in to help them when the situation calls for it.  Danny and Gavin started work on house #5 Saturday and "the beat goes on."   This is exciting and fun.  If you want to help them build more quickly, COME!!

By the way, West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring a special Gala valentine party at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club this Saturday, Feb. 9 to raise funds to buy the building materials to build these houses.  The Gala will include wine tasting of local wineries, hors d'vourves, live music and dancing, an oral and a silent auction.  Our goal is to raise $42,000.00.  Come and join us for the fun!!!  Tickets are $50.00 each ($25.00 of which is tax deductible) and can be purchased at Columbia Community Bank, the 1910 Main St. Bistro, The Friendly Vine and at the United Church of Christ in Forest Grove.

We are thankful for each of you who continue to COME and pitch in at the houses.  We could not do it without you!  See you at the building site!

 Dick Kroll, Construction Volunteer Coordinator.

- House Build Update

I sincerely hope your week is going well and that all is well with you and your household.  Those of us who are working on the house are really feeling good about the #1 house.  It is looking like a house is suppose to look.  We are presently working on the last projects getting ready for the inspector to check out the roughed in house.  Richard is working on some plumbing projects and would love some help with that.  George put up special items on Tuesday to attach curtain rods to.  I have been finishing up the inside walls.  We still have some checking to be sure all of the skin on the house is screwed in and more.
We still need you.  We have had a couple new people recently and that is very helpful.  If we have enough people, we will begin to build the second house, which presently has only one garage wall.  We are on the verge of needing our electricians, so if you are willing to help with the electricity, contact me so Richard and I can be in touch with you about those work days.  Thanks for the time that you put in.
We will be at the house tomorrow morning and on Saturday as usual.  Come and join us.  If you can let us know you are coming, it is appreciated.

July 18, 2012

A group of students from Willamette University with some guest students from Japan came to our build site on July 17 and helped us with some framing task, in the second story of the first house, and helped in building an exterior wall on the garage for the second house.

June 28, 2012

The roof trusses went up to the second floor on the house build project on Tuesday, June 26. We will be getting some professional help to set the trusses and then start the sheeting process, and getting the house envelope done. Then it is time for electrical and plumbing work, and on to the next phase.

Richard will be on site tomorrow and will guide those present to building the last two walls.

We will back at it next Tuesday and Thursday.
The projection is to get the trusses on the 19th or the 21st.  That is a sign that we are nearly ready to put the roof
   on.
Hope a number of you will join Richard tomorrow.  Thanks in advance.

May 31, 2012

On Tuesday  we made a lot of headway, we have three walls ready and we will be raising them on the second floor.  These walls are heavy, so it is essential that we have, at least 6 or 7 people to help raise them.  In addition we will be building walls for the north and south ends of the second floor, and four or five short walls, including the dormer  above the garage. We also still have a couple porch forms to finish if enough people show up.
Thursday is an important day of construction.  There is no way we can proceed if we do not have enough people to raise the walls.
COME, EVEN IF IT IS ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME.
We are really getting close to having the walls up.  Then we can call on some pros to help put up the trusses and put the roof on the house.  When it is covered, the windows can go in (we already have them at the site.)  The electricity and plumbing can go in, then the insulation and the dry wall.  This is exciting.

LET'S KEEP IT GOING AT THIS PACE!
If you can come  Saturday, please contact me.  WE NEED YOU !!!

Another successful work day at the House Build site. 2 walls were placed and 2 more are framed and waiting to be raised. Trusses come next, roofing and windows then. Work is progressing along at a great pace. Thank you all for your help.

May 23, 2012

We had a good turn out for the United Church of Christ workday in memory of Glenn Cooper. A number of task's were accomplished, including moving the security fence, continuing to put sill plates on, front porch forms being set, and the flooring on the second floor of the first house being installed. It was great to have all these people contribute to the project, a fitting tribute for Glenn. Thank you very much. More pictures are on the house build page.

May 15, 2012

On Saturday May 19, the United Church of Christ is having a work party at the Habitat build site in memory of Glenn Cooper and the work he did for West Tuality Habitat for Humanity. There should be a good number of people there for a great time of fellowship and work to remember Glenn and the work he did for Habitat.

The second floor joists are on and the house is getting ready to frame the second story walls.

May 8, 2012

The house build is back on the normal Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 9 am to 1 pm each day schedule. Second story floor joists will be installed this week, and some of the items we did not get to last week. Any help is greatly appreciated to move this project along.

May 2, 2012

There will be a change in the work schedule at the house build site this week. Richard Kidd is out of town and Dick Kroll will be overseeing this weeks construction. Dick and a crew will be on site on Friday May 4th from 10 am to 2 pm and on Sunday May 6th from 2 pm to 5 pm. Please feel free to show up and help out.

       1.  We have 4 small 2'x2' pads of cement to run
       2.  We will build the forms for 5 porches (one on each house.)  Each about 8' x 6' with a 2' X 40" sidewalk attached.
       3.  We hope to have some chain link fence in order to complete the temporary fence around the foundations for the buildings to be built in the   future.  This is a safety requirement.  There is a place for about 110' of permanent fence as well if you know of some that is available.

NOTE:  A 12' chain fence has been donated which would have to be cut into two sections of 6' fence.

Does anyone have a way to cut that role of fence in half without cutting each piece of chain independently?

       4.  PLUMBING SKILLS WANTED:  We have a toilet to set.  If you would like to do this job, all the necessary items are at the site.

If people have the skill and confidence to put the floor joists up for the second floor, that can also be done.  We have blueprints.

If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, please let me know.

HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU THAT YOU ARE AVAILABLE AND INTERESTED

Welcome to the West Tuality Habitat for Humanity website. We hope you find what you are looking for here on the website. If we can be of assistance in any way, please contact us and we will make sure we meet your needs.

West Tuality Habitat was started in 1992 by a group of local volunteers. Since that time, we have built approximately 7 homes in the Forest Grove - Cornelius area. We are currently working on our current building project of 2 homes at the corner of 19th and Oak in Forest Grove.

West Tuality Habitat also operates a ReStore located at 3731 Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove. The ReStore offers a variety of used, recycled building materials and furniture at below retail costs. It also accepts donations of items at the store.  You can find more information on the ReStore at the website. Please click on the link provided.

Here is a great short video about ReStores and the purposes they serve in our organizations.

We invite you to look around our website and see what West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is all about. We also invite you stop in and shop at the ReStore, or to visit our home build site.
