Earn the Presidential Service Award Through West Tuality Habitat
West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is a certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award. That means that, if you volunteer with West Tuality Habitat and meet the eligibility requirements for a Presidential Service Award via the hours you volunteer with just us or in combination with another organization that is a certifying organization, you can receive the award.
To be eligible for this award, a nominee must be a citizen of the USA or lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder) and complete their eligibility for the award within a 12-month period, for the annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
To be eligible for the award through West Tuality Habitat for Humanity, the volunteer must notify West Tuality Habitat that he or she intends to track hours for this award, and then keep track of volunteer service hours on a spread sheet. The spread sheet should have the person’s full name and contact information at the top, and then these columns that should be regularly updated by the volunteer:
Date of a volunteer shift.
Number of service hours given on that shift.
What the person did during that service (helped with house painting, helped with photography in the ReStore, organized an event for West Tuality Habitat, designed a flyer for the ReStore, etc.).
A staff person or volunteer that could confirm the volunteer’s service in this shift.
What challenges the volunteer faced in doing these tasks (if any).
What the volunteer learned during a particular shift or overall.
The volunteer then should notify West Tuality Habitat within two months of expected completion of hours that will make the volunteer eligible for the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award, and submit their spreadsheet at that time to volunteer@westtualityhabitat.org, who will then work to confirm that person’s service hours and work with the volunteer regarding securing the Presidential Service Award.
West Tuality Habitat has a huge range of volunteering opportunities. We have a variety of ways you can help as a volunteer to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter - and they don’t all involve hammers! Most of volunteering opportunities are in Forest Grove, Oregon; some are also in Gaston, North Plains, Buxton, Cornelius, Banks and the surrounding area. You can help with home construction, critical home repairs, yard cleanup for vulnerable homeowners, customers in the ReStore, photography, events, community outreach, committee work/advising, fundraising and more. We also occasionally have online volunteering opportunities regarding graphic design, research, writing and editing. Read about all of our volunteering opportunities here.
