Pacific University Students Volunteer with West Tuality Habitat for Humanity

Students assist in repair projects as well as ReStore improvements. 

Forest Grove (Jan 15th 2020) — Over the next two weeks 24 students from Pacific University are volunteering their time and energy for West Tuality Habitat for Humanity in our work to build homes, communities, and hope. They are working with our organization as part of their ‘Action on Affordable Housing’ course.

The students are helping with a variety of projects with the West Tuality Habitat affiliate. In the Forest Grove Restore, students are assisting staff to prepare the Restore for renovations by clearing out storage and work areas. On repair sites, students are working on critical repairs for a disabled, senior homeowner in Cornelius. They are clearing debris causing rot and safety issues as well as repairing a leak and rotting subfloor. At the Kidd Court construction site, students are sanding drywall and priming the walls in our new Habitat homes.

After their participation this week, we are excited to continue working with them on the 21st and 23rd of this month. The experience these young people have will teach them valuable hand skills and encourage them to continue to be involved in the cause of affordable housing.

Volunteers like these students are vital to the work we do to build and repair homes, provide financial education and affordable mortgages for Habitat homeowners, and accomplish our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
